The Importance of Reading Newspaper

Man is curious by nature. He possesses a tendency to know the unknown and to conquer the unconquered. Newspapers are the best way to satisfy this curiosity.

 

There was a time when newspaper was confined to the drawing room of rich and aristocratic people. Very few people used to read newspaper. But time has changed radically. Today, from the half-educated working-class people to the highly educated elite class, read newspaper. In fact, after waking up from bed in the morning, our days begin with the soft touch of newspaper.

 

The first and foremost usefulness of newspaper is the flow of information. It provides us with the current affairs of the whole world. Now-a-days there are so many modern equipment to obtain information. But no other medium can give us the details as like as a newspaper can. It keeps us up- to- date with the newer and fresh news.

 

Newspaper promotes publicity of newer things. New notifications of the Govt. and other organizations are circulated through it. It is the chief source of publishing commercial advertisements. It contributes to business a lot.

 

Newspaper has a great educative value, too. Various education features are published in newspapers. It acts as a media of education for teachers and students. In fact, it is the cheapest means of mass education. Newspaper is a powerful media in making mass people aware of various matters. It works as the conscience of the society.

 

Newspaper sometimes forms public opinion on current topics. At the time of distress of a nation, newspaper can play a vital role. For example, during the liberation war of our country, some newspaper consistently encouraged the freedom fighters.

 

Newspaper is an important means of recreation also. It publishes features on sport, media and media personality, life style, fashion etc. It is a good companion in our leisure period or in a boring journey. It entertains us with poem, jokes, cartoons, stories, and other humorous writings.

 

One regretful matter is, some newspapers of our country are puppets in the hands of some politicians and moneyed man. These people use newspaper as their weapon against their opposition. This affects the readers badly.

 

Though newspaper has some demerits, we can not think a single day without it. It is one of the driving forces of the modem civilization. So, all of us should build up a habit of reading newspaper daily.
